OLYMPIC FIRSTS
A Games full of Olympic firsts saw Mexican hurdler Enriqueta Basilio become the first woman to light the cauldron at the Opening Ceremony, America’s Wyomia Tyus became the first athlete to win the 100m twice and Dick Fosbury’s innovative “Fosbury Flop” technique change the event forever. The Games also saw the infamous “Black Power” salute while first-time winners had to undergo a doping test. |
